As a mother something that I struggle with is the idea of sending my kids to activities outside of the home. Kindergarten is throwing me over the edge, but even things like the idea of T-ball or dance lessons makes me hyperventilate a little. I think that I'm scared of getting over scheduled and just driving my kids all over the planets for a living. I just like to play outside in the dirt... is that too much to ask? Why do we ever need to leave our happy little house?
When we were planning on moving down my sister-in-law asked if Macey wanted to play on Jane's T-ball team. I wasn't so sure I was ready for that kind of thing and plus I didn't know for sure when we were moving. Well, we moved down and then the very next week (just a few days later) I went up to SLC for a blogging conference. While I was gone Thomas decided that she should play T-ball and took her to practice and that was that. Macey was playing t-ball for the first time. Her first real paid for activity outside of a 2 week swimming lessons we did when she was two, almost three years old, which was three years ago.
It was great! I loved that it was only 6 weeks long and my sister-in-law and I did some ride sharing which helped cut down on driving to and from practice. The only draw back was that we signed up too late to get a t-shirt. The day they passed out those pretty green Gator shirts was a hard one because everyone expect Macey got one. No worries little one, Momma will provide. Now, we live an hour and a half from a Wal-Mart, so running to town isn't much of an option. I popped on the internet and paid out the nose for a green shirt to show up in three days which turned out to be 2 sizes to small... oh well.
Macey loved decorating her own shirt and it was probably way cooler than one of those screen printed shirts anyhow... And not only did Macey decorate her shirt but Jane needed to embellish hers and both of the little boys needed to make things too. It was pretty awesome to work with paint and 4 young kids all at the same time. They did great and I got a workout!
And then the day of the first game arrived! She was totally nervous (and the pictures show it!) but she did amazing. She's a great hitter and a really quick runner. Being in the field isn't her favorite part but she sure tries.
Here are all of our shirts that we lovingly hand-crafted:
GO GATORS! You can't see Henry's cape but it's says Gators. He was Gator Guy; their number one fan.
Team picture. I wish I knew who all these kids were because one day this is going to be treasure!! I think I'll bust this out at Junior Prom for a slide show or something. Can you see how nervous Macey is?!
As the season went on she liked it more and more, and in true t-ball fashion she quickly learned that the treat at the end is the very best part of playing. Next year Macey and Henry will be able to play on the same team and honestly, I'm excited!
Macey also went to a few preschool field trips with Jane. This was her with the very first lunch that I ever packed for her to be gone from 9am until 1pm. It was a big first for me. I'm just not used to having my kids out of the house! They went putt-putt and she was freezing and hated it :)
And just because... Henry is a nut.
